CPSC stays ban enforcement.
This is an update to an earilier post regarding the Consumer Products Safety Commission’s ban on youth ATVs containing lead.
I am happy to say that I saw this post today on Motorcycle USA regarding the CPSCs decision to stay the enforcement of the lead ban on youth-oriented motorcycles, go-karts, and ATVs.
The post also contains Acting Chairman Nord’s statement regarding the request to exclude certain motor vehicles from the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008. Basically Chairman Nord said she has denied the petition for exclusion based on the specific wording of the law, but has directed compliance staff to stay enforcement the section of the law as it pertains to this specific product segment.
The twelve-month time-out will be used to allow Congress more time to fine-tune the law to resolve this dilemma. Here’s hoping for common sense.
