Trimmer buying tips

Here are some pointers while shopping for string trimmers. Provided by Husqvarna.

A trimmer is used to trim grass edges where the lawn mower

can’t reach. A trimmer with a curved shaft is often used by homeowners for easy trimming around lawns and flower beds. The machines with straight shafts and bevel gears are designed for more professional and demanding jobs, and they make it easier to reach under hedges, bushes and the like. As an accessory, the machines with straight handles can have a J handle which prevents the user from coming too close to the bevel gear. The J handle should be attached when the machine is fitted with a grass blade.

Things to keep in mind when choosing a trimmer:

  • Your trimmer should be high powered and have rapid acceleration for maximum efficiency.
  • It should weigh as little as possible, relative to its power.
  • The machine should have an efficient vibration-damping system to minimize vibrations in those parts of the machine that the user comes in contact with.
  • The engine should have some form of emission control, for the benefit of the user’s working environment as well as the environment as a whole.
  • The engine should be easy to start.
