Diversify or not, that is the question

There are two dealers in this industry. Dealers that have added power sports products to their whole goods and those that have not. The seasonality of the power equipment business oftens leads dealers to look into diversification of their product lineup. I have been thinking about this more frequently.

It seems to be a natural fit for Powered Agriculture in that most of the employees have grown up riding quads, bikes, ‘biles, and skis. Some of our mechanics and sales reps even came from the power sports industry. It would increase our revenue streams as some customers have asked us to service their sports machines since we already service their equipment. There is also an exciting “fun” feeling with power sports products that doesn’t remind people of their landscape chores like power equipment.

The fun stops when I think of how we have been strengthening our focus and systems for our power equipment customers and especially commercial landscapers that rely on their equipment for their livelihood. I don’t want to spread that focus and support too thin by combining industries. We have, thus far, stayed with our mission of building and supporting the power equipment industry and I don’t think we can divert our resources from that.
